Orange County reported 1,381 new cases and two more deaths May 6 – Orange County Register

The OC Health Care Agency reported 1,381 more cases of the coronavirus between Tuesday, May 3, and Friday, May 6, increasing the cumulative total since tracking began in the county to 555,610.

There were 4,754 new cases reported in the last two-week period as of Friday, May 6.

The county is now reporting updates to coronavirus-related case counts on Tuesdays and Fridays, following changes to reporting timelines at the state level.

There were 97 people reported in Orange County hospitals with coronavirus on Friday including 17 who required intensive care.

The county reported two more deaths on Friday, increasing the count of Orange County residents who have died from the virus to 7,011.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates, or gathered through the course of case investigations, and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on April 28.

Of the 7,011 deaths reported from the virus, 1,335 were skilled nursing facility residents, 704 were in assisted living facilities, two were OC jail inmates, and 21 were listed as homeless.

It is estimated 541,283 people in the county have recovered from the virus. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
