Shares of iRobot Corp. jumped nearly 20% in premarket trading Friday after the maker of the Roomba smart vacuum agreed to be acquired by Amazon.com Inc. in a deal worth $1.7 billion, including debt.
Amazon said it would pay $61 a share for iRobot, a 22% premium to Thursday’s closing price of $49.99 for the Bedford, Mass., company.
The purchase price is well below iRobot’s 52-week high of $98.86 reached last November.
IRobot shares were recently trading at $59.77.
